Lakeside - It's All The Way Live (Live in 1979)

Uploaded by: s2margolin
Video Description:
In 1977 they recorded an album for the label, ABC Records. This time things were really turning up for the nine piece band with a move to SOLAR Records. They dropped the "Express" from their name, and began to make the R
B charts, starting with "It's All the Way Live" (#4 R
B). Bassist Marvin Craig, drummer Fred Alexander, percussionist Fred Lewis, guitarist Steve Shockley, and four male vocalists including Mark Wood's sound stemmed from years of playing together. The band dressed in costumes on their album covers, including pirates, 1920's police officers, cowboys, Arabian knights, and even Robin Hood.
Lakeside's biggest hit came in 1980 with "Fantastic Voyage" which topped the R
B charts, and also made the pop charts, the first and last time for the band, peaking at number 55. They followed the song up with a remake of the Beatles' song, "I Want to Hold Your Hand," which made the R
B Top Ten again. More hits on the R
B charts kept the group going until their split in the late '80s.
Coolio took a rap version of "Fantastic Voyage" to number three on the pop charts in 1994.

AMEN to that, all favorites of mine. George clinton/bootsy daddy of bands making funk! James brown and his band started it all though, these groups put it in another NOTCH and BRANDED funk! Love these groups, I have all their greatest hits. Live and die for old school that's why I am an audiophile, you should hear it on PLANARS, ELECTORSTATIC loudspeakers or omnidirectional like a walsh driver or any speaker using a LINE SOURCE drivers. Your old school music can't be relived without high end!

Y'know, I hear alot young people complain that adults tend 2 always put down their music, comparin it 2"ours."So I try not 2 do it. But songs like this dont make it easier 4 me. I mean honestly speaking, I just dont hear any R
B songs these days that can be played with dis much energy
musicianship. Listen 2 the enthusiasm that the audience sings along, the rythymic bass
that fast piano.
how often do we hear a kick-ass guitar solo accompanying ANY of todays R
B? Sorry kids but Ur music sux.

There are no real musicians left...just hacks that are good side-shows and know how to use electronic dubbing to their advantage. I'd LOVE to see what would happen if some of these clowns actually had to PLAY an instrument. The incompetence would be so stupendous, just watching it grenade on them would be entertainment in a very real sense.
I disagree. These ... ( 1 week ago by Dsekc1)
I disagree. These brothas are actually quite talented singers and players. They use no vocal or instrumental samples on stage. Steve the guitarist was used as a session musician for Solar records for many years... hard to do in L.A. if you don't play well.
