I did actually think "that machine is so incredibly purposeful, how can it have evolved by itself?" but then I remembered that's a very common reaction when looking at complex life. It's always explainable.. it always comes from something simpler. Evolution FTW!

I dunno what u guys are arguing.
Let be straight. Evolution is cruel and merciless. All things we see today r just what succeeded in survivin. There is very huge gap between non-life and life matter and they are all MISSING.
This machine might be complex. But guess what? the failure might be a more complex machine whose failure is being too complex. who knows? that's evolution!
Muller and Urey Experiment is only a start. It only tells us that it is POSSIBLE that life comes from non-life.

i was thinking at first, as i was watching this that they'd preassembled some of these molecules and then let the laws of chemistry take their course... But the more i watched it, the more i became suspicious that it was just as animated as a Pixar Cartoon...! We weren't watching real life chemistry, we were watching orthodoxy dogma of how they think this stuff works...??? Is there a source file for how these clips were created somewheres...???

Of course it is animated. The whole thing is synthetic recreation of what current science believes to be the case. Hardly a criminal offence to construct a model of what you believe to be true. Stop being so dramatic.

Well; The difference is; Whether the animation is teaching you something new or whether it's promoting orthodoxy dogma. i was kind of hoping that they programmed into the simulator all the laws of physics &/or chemistry, which is redundant, and letting it do whatever those laws dictated. It would appear that this animation was created by carefully positioning each molecule with animation tools.

The problem with this kind of thinking is that you're axiomatically assuming that there is No Gawd, Therefore; The complexities of life MUST HAVE originated by Random Evolutionary, or Chaotic Evolutionary forces. The correct approach would be to Start from a position of wonderment & decide just how reasonable it is for either of these two hypothesis' or if both are incredibly improbable, allow yourself to be open to a third or fourth crazy theory...?

Do you know just how much processing power and memory that would take? not to mention the time spent building the code to generate such an app. We're talking some serious amounts of number-crunching.. more than exists in the world today I would imagine. If you go onto the website of the guy who created it, he worked with scientists that study this stuff - they actually observe it.. that's how they know what is happening. Check it out.

You are right to question predisposed beliefs.. but neither theory you suggest can follow from just awe.. you need to add in all the remaining information to paint a plausible picture. Some people skip that and add faith in dominant traditional views (both scientific, religious and otherwise). I don't think there is any right way to do this, really. We are all learning as a race.. we are uncovering more and more as time goes on. I am currently exploring 3rd (and fourth) crazy theories :)

Evolution is not random... You need to educated on what evolution is. Oh and it wouldn't hurt to find out what a THEORY is and a HYPOTHESIS? I think the whole point of this video was to put it in "Lay" terms, not DNA research for PhD's. And by the way, evolution isn't random. Nature creates balance, and strength to it's creations. The weak parts die off, plain and simple......

Fucking amazing! But you can't represent something like this visually (accurately) since those are all molecular structures. Each sphere in the video is an atom and they would be so far away from each other to even see... but it is necessary to use spherical representation (for each atom) to display the movement of the molecules. I guess you can think of the spheres as the electron shells in a way though. Either way I'M PERTURBED. I love it though amazing animation.
