wrongo. it's origin lists it primarily as an arm break move. one is supposed to do some sort of arm grab, to a quick pull and twist of the arm (hence why the left arm is in the side, then the right backfist is supposed to come down onto the opponent's elbow. the arm grab-twist component is unseen anymore in modern wushu, but that's what its function was in the original shaolin roots.

He's the only person that I've seen do a jump outside 720 in changquan. Everybody else does it in nanquan.

sigh... modern wushu is become more of a dance than anything... I'm not saying that itz not good but can they really use it in a fight? you don't see any wushu in ufc...K1 sanda? can we say that wu shu is still a martial art?

I'm not a pro .. but I've trained with him. He's pretty bad ass. He wouldn't have much trouble taking care of himself in a fight. He actually doesn't like to fight though, which is good. He's a peaceful sort of guy.

I'm just wonder when will wu shu return to itz orginal roots of combat rather than demonstration. nevertheless it is impressive. But you can't help to imagin a fight between wushu and other martial arts in K1 or etc...

traditional kung-fu is what youre thingkin of, modern wushu was founded in the 50's and has always been performace but shaoling kung-fu is more application tecnuiqes and meant more for self defence.

It is my understanding that the majority of movements in modern Wushu can be used in a fight, provided the exponents trained specifically to that purpose. However, the majority of exponents prefer to focus on grace and beauty- is this correct in your knowledge?
I've studied traditional Luohanquan and Changquan for a small number of years, so I'm still a beginner, but have used Luohanquan to protect myself with success. I know very little of modern Wushu. I did enjoy this performance, however.

It was developed in the Shaolin Temple many centuries ago and exists as a fighting art. I learned it as a fighting style, complete with throws, grappling, and even limited ground fighting. In my opinion, it is the best style to come from the Shaolin tradition, but keep in mind I'm biased. No offense intended, all martial styles require sacrifice and thus require our respect.

Sparring was a major focus in my training. No forms exist to my knowledge for Chin Na, which is the term sifu used for grappling and ground techniques. It was pretty intense, but the more you bleed and bruise in the school, the less you do so on the street. As a result, sifu wound up teaching us all a lot about medicine as well. Talk about bang for the buck!
