I like Malmsteen and I have everything he did solo, with Alcatraz and Steeler. But these guys (I dunno about Paco but Di Meola and McLaughlin for sure) are also far ahead in their skills and technique. Di Meola
´s early records were pure shred and that was before Malmsteen even entered the "biz". But soon after that, Di Meola refused to do any shred records although he somehow still shreds lol.
