The Norseman Xtreme in Norway. You start with the swim in one of the freezing Norwegian fjords (well, not freezing for us Norwegians) with very strong currents, and after the bike and run you've gained over 3000 meters of altitude, because the course has very steep uphill climbing and downhill descents. During the run alone you gain about 1800 meters, the entire marathon is uphill. This during typical Norwegian weather, which make conditions uncertain to say the least. Toughest IM in the world.

No, the hardest is Lanzarote. Why? Cold Atlantic waters, 180 Km around the island of lanzarote against the worst wind you can imaging, and afterwards, running a Marathon with 30 degrees Celsius. That's tough!!

Well, those "cold Atlantic waters" are 20 degrees celsius, whereas the water you swim in when doing the Norseman is 15-17.
It's cold, wet and very windy, in addition you gain 5200 meters of altitude during the race, enough to climb Kilimanjaro from the base to the top, and still have 600 meters to spare. All in a day, all in a very variable climate. You could end up doing the run in 30 degrees celsius, or in 10 degrees celsius and heavy rain, and during the run alone you gain 1800 meters.

WOW. i have the bigest goose bumps i have ever had all over my body, for thouse of you who have ran 5k, 10k, half marathons, marathons. 200+ bike races and have heard of IRONMAN, you would have a similar feeling, the feeling that YOU WILL DO THIS!!!! set a goal love life!!!! DO THIS!!!! im 24 now have done all the this i listed above and will finish my first iron man by the time i am 30!!!

i did them all. hawaii, norseman, lanzarote. hawaii is the easy one of them. norseman has more altitude difference and maybe bad weather (like 2005 with snowfalls). but than its more like a adventure, not a race. in the last 10km climb the most people walking, not running. lanzarote can be very hot, most the time you have heavy wind, and the race is more competitive. so you have tu push harder. for me are norseman and lanzarote at the same level. its individual, what you like and prefer......

I had done several Marathons.
spring triathlons, triathlons.
But this looks like its the finish line.
it as if the little races we had done are just practice for this big event.
