If MMA is the true way to survive then one of you athletes tell me this. Why do I NEVER see a weapon in the ring like knife or gun? Why are there NEVER multiple attackers?? What would happen if you were grappleing someone and their friends showed up. Or what if there was a weapon and you did not realize it until they stuck it in your side. Why are your trainers called "COACH" instead of teacher or Sensei? Some one please help me.

almost every mixed martial artist began with the old stuff. but remember, if you do too much useless crap rom traditional martial art, youre gonna get hurt. but the ones who show it the most are anderson silva and georges st pierre.

Then what is your alternative? The most efficient way to win against multiple attackers with guns and knifes is to take out a gun yourself. Do you want to watch gun fights in the rings or something lol
Besides combat sambo is focused on exactly that, fighting against someone with a weapon. Disarming and disabling your oponent in the quickest way availeble. Another alternative is to avoid such a fight or to make a succesfull escape.

those 4 guys they show in the octogon ring standing together. So unsightly...an elite master i would think would have little fat on the buddy..these guys had bulges of muscle (indicative of muscle + fat). ugly. no proper body conditioning...only technique and muscle mass.

You think this is combat??? This is entertainment at most. A mma fighter wouldnt last a second with a skilled knife fighter. (not even a woman) There are no unarm or weapons training in mma. You become an excellent brawler and thats it.

because ufc is more like the sports equivalent to mma. the ufc is step my with rules that make it safe for the fighters. sure it would be entertaining to see knife fighting in a ring but the reality of it is, you would be sitting there for 3 minutes watching nothing cause most people would be so cautious that the smartest move would be for both fighters to do nothing cause no one wants to be stabbed for entertainment, no matter how much training they have had.

getthere24 there is no martial art that can prepare you for multiple attackers period there are way too many variables the best thing to do is walk away but sometimes that isnt possible so the most effective martial art where the main goal is to not get hurt is gracie jiujitsu IMO. I think it has been proving enough times. Saying why arent there multiple attackers are guys with weapons in MMA is kind of like saying why dont the big slow guys in NFL just shoot the RB because they cant catch him

GREAT IDEA !! take one of the multi attackers to the ground as the others kick the shit out of you while you are on the ground ?? The best defence is a great offence, so kick the shit out of one or two of the attackers, and there is a good chance the others will run away./.. First guy, hit in the throat, or poke out eyes, then on to the second..

No I meant there is no MA that can prepare you for getting jumped yes IMO GJJ is the best for street self defense but I didnt mean in the scenario of multiple attackers there is nothing tp prepare you for that and any MA that claims so is a con. If your about to get jumped best thing to do is get out of there asap if not possible yes attack and hope for the best but I get tired of guys who say well what if there more than one person then my reply is use common sense and not engage if possible

I'm sorry, but I don't agree. I'm studying Kajuknebo ( a mixed martial art) and even the jr. belts know basic knife defense. Once you reach purple, you work more with weapons and what not.
Of course, I do agree that pretty much all the fighting you see on TV is fake. Entertaining, but fake.

If your mma class teaches you how to either fight or escape weapons, multiple attackers, and larger opponents, then it is certainly a good fighting style. I am refering to the mma gyms that only show you how to fight someone your size in a big open area with no cloths on. Because that is not a realistic situation.

Lol WHAT?? I dont think a knife fighter would take on a tank. And hopefully a mma fighter wouldnt try to take on someone with a weapon. That wouldnt be to good for his sports career. A martial art should never take out weapon training. Even if you dont care to know how to fight with a weapon. You need to at least know how to defend against it.

Ah, I see. Sorry, I misunderstood your previous comment.
I agree, only learning to fight against those your size in single combat isn't worth much of anything outside the ring. Someone always has a brother, a friend, so on and so forth.

Besides saying that grappling is useless in one against many fights is not true.
Think of it from the point of many weaker strikers taking on a stronger striker. 2 on 1lets say. Best strategy for them would be to get that guy on the ground and keep him there while the second guy would finish him off while he s defenseless. So if the guy doesn't know anything about it and does
n't know how to avoid it no matter how good of a striker he is he ll be in trouble.
