Bullshit. The US went into Iraq for two reasons.
1) Saddam was a biggest enemy of the US in the Middle and after 9/11 irrespective of whether or not he was tight with Al-Qaeda leaving him in power sitting on all that oil wealth in the heart of the Middle East was no longer viable whether Bush or Gore was President.
2) Create a stable Iraqi government that is not an enemy of the US.
How rich or poor Iraqi society is, is not the look out of the US government. It's theirs.

Analyse what they said and then what they did.
They said they were going to overthrow Saddam and replace his dictatorship with an Iraqi democracy. They did that and the Iraqi democratic government is now in control of much of the country (Al-Anbar is the latest region under control of Iraqi forces).
They said that once Iraq was stabilised they would begin to bring the troops home.
The number of combat troops is being reduced as I write.
Were there fuck-ups along the way?
