| J.R.Monterose has gotten lost in the shuffle, but he had very strong, telling solos on the visionary "Teddy Charles Tentet" and the Mingus "Pithecantropus Erectus" LP's of the 1950's. Thank you for this one example of his skill! |

| Back in the late 50's, the late composer Joe Roccisano and I made a trip to Albany New York to see what was happening in Jazz in that town from Springfield Ma. Joe Knew that the New Gaity Bar had a Tenor player who held everyones attention. He was J.R. Monterose. Joe and I often talked about that evening during a blizzard, hearing the great tenor that influenced our addiction to BeBop that I still recall as a great musical experience.
