Thats true. I actually took Jazz class at school to fill elective crdits. I learned that, That class was awesome. I remember the professor talked about that...funny stuff.

Chick Webb's band members were all high-voltage performers, his arrangers were the best, and his songs full of variety. The only sad thing is the recording technology apparently was not capable of capturing his own drum performances well, which commentators of the time universally praised to the hilt. Regardless, his stuff is fabulous! Thanks!

Nice that you got this recording up online. For some reason this wasn't included in the otherwise definitive and excellently remastered MCI CD reissiue of Webb's early recordings a few years ago.

Yeah. I think this is true of all the drummers from that time. The equipment just couldn't get the tones and subtleties and this seems especially true on studio recordings. Usually the live recordings (if there are any) picked up all the instruments better.

The only film of Webb worth a damn, is taken from a MARCH OF TIME film about the original dixieland jazzband.
Baby Dodds was a major influence on drummers well befor Mr. Webb came on the scene.
