Wushu is the flashiest of Chinese Martial Arts and therefore is perfect for movies and stuff. They are more artsy and "exaggerated", if you will, than other martial arts. Wing Chun is a great, practical art, but is too fast and "simple" for the movies. It simply just isn't as entertaining for an average person to watch wing chun compared to wushu. To answer your question, there are people who fight with shaolin, taichi in real life, but many more practice Taekwondo and stuff so it overshadows.

wushu is great for learning to fight yes it does have exaggerated movements but that is to develop the body in wushu you learn to integrate speed power accuracy and flexibility into all of your moves. the reason a lot of people say wushu is not for fighting is because they dont know how to asses the movements of it. it is more about giving you the tools to do the job. but still very good for fighting

I totally agree that wushu gives you great skills for fighting but that alone is not enough to be a fighter, but it sure does help. I do do both wushu and fighting (sanda/san shou/boxing/MMA)

yeah i agree but their are still many people who can use it for fighting some people are born with the mindset and only need the tools to accomplish it. but many people still need to be taught how to use the tools.

dude this cant be used for violence. It is all art and entertainment. Theses guys would get rocked in a street fight against a wrestler or boxer.

i did wushu and my sparring partner did muay thai. wushu can very much be used for fighting wushu trains you so that your punches and kicks are fast flexible accurate and powerful if you have a fighters mindset it can easily be applied. as for street fighters their nothing. never have i been touched in a school yard fight or when some one has tried to mug me and all i ever did was wushu
