Wow. That's... surprisingly harsh. The ending of the video, I mean... On the other hand, she does love controversy, maybe she pulled it because she was afraid they *wouldn't* ban it... Without mystique, this video would sink quickly, because who would want to watch it more than once?

If she's so brave, why would she pull this video? She was right all along? Are you aware that many people -- long before Madonna -- were making these same points?
Madonna's not as brave as you make her out to be. She would have put this video out.
In addition, I don't think this video or song are very good. Maybe she pulled it because she thought the video wasn't that good? It has a message yes, but it largely gets lost in a bad idea.

Maybe she pulled the video bcos she felt that it would generate too much trouble in America at that tym. Maybe she felt it would cause more terrorism, and more hatred towards America. But her message is very clear and the video is spot on!

2/2 Madonna wasn't taking any chances--so she freaked and chose to shelve this controversial video entirely, then quickly slap together a cheapo green-screen alternate version instead. This was a rare moment of conservatism from a woman who'd never before seemed to care one bit if she offended anyone and everyone...which makes us think she decided to pull the plug on the original "American Life" video because it was just plain awful. yahoo
