perz919 Afrocentrist? cmon bro you and I know that out of all the Caribbean the island of Cuba is the one with the most potent West/Congo African traditions. Now yes there is a strong European element but the African culture transplanted in Cuba is to unique and powerful that it forces people to recognize its potency it is undeniable. So what does this mean people may say the Eurocentric side is the "fino" but the African element of our individual cultural indentity is dynamic and compelling.

I must agree . i watch alot of nigerian movies and ive attended many parties of the culture. and the cuban dances are so similar to nigerian dances it is mindblowing.

Black is not a race, it's a color, and everybody in the world is from Africa do research, cuba is a new country.So why do you speak spanish and not cuban? spanish comes from spain, spain is in europe, europeans are white.So if your a little bit lighter skinned you might have some european just as a light skinned "negro" but the fact remains if your ancestors were slaves, you got some "black in you" and the light skin is from europe not cuba cuz cuba is a new country, you on of us lol

Ok...the United states is a new country so why do we speak english and not american? No... it's only in America where you find this race bullcrap. They don't believe in that in many caribbean and hispanic countries. We're the only people on this hempisphere who have our culture. There are no labels everywhere else. I love it!!

Listen up...Blacks were introduced to Cuba in 1532 even before the United States was even a country, even before the Pilgrims settled here, and blacks were introduced to the U.S in 1620, and of course the U.S was still not a country back then, it was a group of British colonies. Cuba was discovered before North America, thus Cuba is not a new country, is actually an older country that the U.S.

you couldn't be more wrong....Cuba wasn't independent until around 1902 it was a colony of Spain....Teddy Roosevelt actually fought in the war to free Cuba from Spain.....

"Blacks" were "introduced" to the United States way before 1620...more like 1528..and by the way, those were Black slaves. Now,the "Blacks" who arrived in America with Columbus with him when he discovered America, were with him and treated as equals. "Who knows", it may be true that most Egyptians do not consider themselves to be African simply because it has such a strong Arabic influence (especially since it is so close to Arabic countries), but the matter of fact is that Egypt is in Africa. OH YEAH! I also play Middle Eastern percussion as well as West African and music from the diaspora. The Egyptians that I know get pissed beyond belief when you do not include them as African! I don't know what kind of Egyptians you all know, but I wouldn't advise telling one that they aren't African!!!! The whole of sub-Saharan Africa speaks Arabic. The 7th holiest city in Islam resides in Senegal! Their looks and language may change but one thing stays the same AFRICA!!!! Ya tu lo ves!
