Because of the might of Hadhrat Umar. He was very powerful and strong in character, and very brave. When he turned to Islam the kaafir were scared to come across him as he was very strict. The other Umar (Abu Jahl, means father of ignorance i think) was very powerful in terms of rank, he was one of the leaders of Makkah, but by Allah's will Umar al Khattab entered Islam!
