....so is it a celtic tune for you or is there an americanized bluegrass version or something... I think the most interesting thing about music is what happens to it as it travels... then again may be a completely different tune!

Harsh. Not everyone can know everything. I have music books with Sleeping Maggie in them, and not one of them sounds like this. Maybe I could have said it better the first time around, but all I meant was this is not like the Sleeping Maggie that I know. And I know these comments are from a year ago but youtube kept sending me links to them for me to reply, so.. CityzenJane said it best, it may have travelled and become something completely different. Sorry for stirring up anything.

your alla little right- the tune sleepy maggie is written in books from hundreds of years ago exaclty as i play it- however- the irish wrote out a tune called sleeping maggie- with a little twist- as they are apt to do- then there is a completly different tune called drowsy maggie- which is the irish tune which you says sound differnt all together- - -arguing over the orignal is like arguing over who wrote the bible- no one knows excpet for what the books say- and they aren't always right ashley

A violin and fiddle are the same instrument it just depends on what tune you happen to be playing on it at the time. I play the violin/fiddle. If you're playing a minuet, waltz, ballroom music, or anything like that it's referred to as a violin, if you're playing jigs, dance songs, then people call it a fiddle. There is however a 5 stringed violin of which I haven't played on as of yet.

I'm not disputing the name of the instrument! I play violin,too and called it a violin simply out of preference. I suppose MacIsaac calls it a fiddle.
