Moving Rocks of Death Valley's Racetrack Playa

Uploaded by: volleybrian
Video Description:
Captured on video for the first time: the mysterious forces that move rocks across the surface of Racetrack Playa in California's Death Valley. As featured on Japanese television.
Nobody has ever seen these rocks move, but they leave trails across the dried mud surface often hundreds of yards long. But on this cold winter morning, when the snowmelt covered the playa, we finally saw what nobody before had ever captured on film.

Dumbass.. he said this video will not show rocks moving.. watch it again and open your ears.. rocks move very slowly when ice is in the process of melting and the surface is muddy and fragil for rocks to slide with ease.

Think about it: Which is more heavy and powerful? a small rock or a huge sheet of ice? sheets of ice crack and change directions on water/mud surface which explains the zigzaging trail left by the rock.

Why don't geologist just set a camera on the ground for a week and leave it running? If we can have cameras on mars rover crafts sending us back footage, why can't we do the same in our own backyard?

These rocks haven't moved in god knows how many hundreds of years - but it rains and freezes every winter in Death Valley - so much for the ice and water theory - it's obviously bullshit.
No one knows or has ever proven how these rocks move.

A geologist tried that. He studed, filmed and measured the rocks over a course of several years. None of them moved an inch.

Several years?? Hmm, well if that's accurate, that's quite a mystery and I'm surprised it hasn't gotten more attention from the scientific community. I'm curious to know what forces are causing these rocks to slide. Some of them are pretty big so I can't imagine it being wind. I hope they're doing more studies on the playa. I'd also like to know if this same phenomena has been observed on playas in other locations.

what don't you understand about : thin sheets of ice melt and drag the rocks? this video already shows the first part of the process, at night the water freezes, the next day it melts slowly and gravity pulls water/ice back dragging the rocks with it.

"Why don't geologist just set a camera...??"
Because it's not worth it, it is obvious why the rocks move and leave trails.

There is a lack of evidence to back the ice sheet claim. Sheets of ice would leave very distinct marks behind, as well as the rock trails. There are NOT any of the markings the ice should leave behind. There is not water at the South end of the playa constantly. Even if there were, why would gravity pull it anywhere but down? The playa is almost perfectly flat. The water motion in this video is caused by the wind, which is also the most likely cause of the rock's motion.
