Some of Norway's most notorious criminals are doing time in the world's first eco-prison. The focus is on an environmentally friendly jail sentence. It's aimed at easing the transition for prisoners about to be set free. Al Jazeera's Nick Clark reports on an experiment which is producing positive results.

I think the US prison system should put all serious offenders (rapists, gangs, killers, etc..) in pure isolation for as long as their sentence. There's too much freedom and barbarianism behind bars. I think it's nothing but a disgrace and putrid to be housing uncivilized bad people. It's a waste of tax money. I say 23.5 hours a day in a 4 wall room, no windows, no light, food will only be brought to them twice a day. This will break their mind, and I think that's what these people need.

I'm not getting "eco-friendly" either, except in the solar panels and apparent lack of motor vehicles. Livestock isn't exactly eco-friendly (#1 source of methane= animal agriculture.) I wonder if any of the prisoners look at the animals, who are caged like they once were, and make any connections? Also, I seriously hope that they're not slaughtering animals there. I wouldn't think they'd be stupid enough to allow it (knowing the effect it could have on the prisoners), but you never know.

Most Norwegians, including myself, speak English. We start studying it at school in the second grade - it's a mandatory secondary language. We may also learn more languages if we so choose.

I sadly say that I am an American. Worse yet I live in Texas. I am in the heart of all ignorance and pride. I see all the things wrong with my country and wish we could be more educated more civilized like most other countries. I try to show friends and family things like this video but to no avail they shake their heads and give me a look of disgust. Its a sad place to be

you cannont be serious if you know anything about psychology you know that yoru theory has many holes and couldn't be supported by any evidence. the only reason why the US has prisons like they do is not to rehabilitate but to have a cheap source of labor and to educate prisoners with other prisoners as their teachers. and jsut by looking at our system you know that our way doesnt work
