The Democratic Presidential candidate spoke in Jordan before heading to Israel. Obama said U.S. involvement in peace talks must recognize Israel's security and economic hardships facing Palestinians. The buzz is on that Republican John McCain may announce his running mate this week. Aides aren't exactly pouring water on that idea. The move could steal the spotlight from rival Obama who's overseas trip has generated wall-to-wall news coverage.Obama says he wants to stick to a mid-2010 target for removing U-S troops from Iraq. But he acknowledged that the top military commander in the region does not want a timetable for withdrawal. He says the U-S needs to run it's attention to Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism. McCain restated his readiness to lose the election rather than support an Iraq policy he felt would put the country in peril. The four-term Arizona senator hotly disagreed on troop withdrawals. McCain said any pullout "must be based on conditions on the ground." ___ ___, The Associated Press.
