Yes, it has some depth lately with the arrival of Djokovic, Murray, and especially Nadal's improvement on non-clay surfaces. I was referring to the period Roger dominated (2003-2007). Andy Roddick was his only consistent opponent in those years and I and others consider Roddick a serve-only mug. Obviously Federer won 12 out of 16 slams between 2003-2007 because he's good, but the lack of strength of the rest of the field helped him a great deal in my opinion.

Roger really watches that ball! Supposedly, he can actually see the ball expand out upon contact with the strings -- I read that in an interview a while back. I wonder what his vision is like? The say Ted Williams' vision was so good he could see the seams moving on the baseball, and that was one of the reasons he was such a great hitter...

You are correct, I see the racket twists because the ball hits not in it's center of gravity or the sweet spot. I see the ball twists the racket facing down and up, a great effort for the wrist to react to let the racket face stay vertical especially hitting and receiving tremendous power. I now understand why most players think there is a wrist action. I see it's a wrist re-action to let the racket stay vertical during the powerful impact, proving newton's third law of motion.

He does that on purpose, as it is actually, for the most topspin, best to hit the ball below the sweet spot which helps close the racquet face and for the best slice, above the sweet spot.

In one scene, I see a ball hit above the sweet spot or the racket's center of gravity, and the racket opened up. Did he also do that on purpose? Or, isnt it that he himself can't accurately control which part of the racket face will the ball land?
